Toki's Poem

Dear Toki,

I know this little owl
She is strong and brave
And lets nothing break her
So it would seem
But I can see
Her cracking
Slowly
But surely

How can I know?
Her eyes
They tell me a story
That would never leave her mouth
I can see how she is stressed
By her survival
Of this
At times
Hectic world
She does a fine job
Of hiding her cracks
Of appearing stronger
Than anyone could be
She has too much pride
To admit
That she's cracked before
Or that she could again
Because she
Must be strong for everyone else
Even when she needs the strength
For herself
And she is determined
Not to let the pressure
Break her
Not to let anyone in
On her secret

But I know something
That she does not
I know she's breaking
Though the cracks are small
I see them
